I can’t remember how I happened upon Money4Opinions.Com, but I’m interested. They want $19.95 to join their little community, so that makes me wary - I tend to be skeptical. I’m not about to plunk down twenty bucks unless I can find some objective review. I searched Google and Yahoo and couldn’t find anything about this place, although I did learn that they advertise in just about every college newspaper’s on-line classified section. I couldn’t find any reviews or disparaging comments about them, though. Has anyone seen this site? Is anyone a member? Is it a scam? Do tell.
[Update: I have gotten quite a few comments here and dozens of readers have written me to say that m4o.com is, in fact, a scam. Stay away from that site!]

I’m a student at the University of Iowa and happened to stumble across an ad for the website in a paper. Skeptical, I finally ended up at the Better Business Bureau website. They gave Money4Opinions.Com an “unsatisfactory business record,” listing this rating due to the company’s poor history of responding to customer complaints over the past three years.

This is a SCAM. And I’m an idiot out $19.95 to prove it. They do not have anything to do with surveys or, for that matter, anything legitimate at all. They take your money (with the false promise of a refund if you’re not satisfied), and then give you a list of 152 web sites completely unrelated to participating in surveys or anything remotely like it. When I complained to them, they said they don’t give refunds, but feel free to write them snail mail and they’d be happy to throw my request in the trash.
Do not go near these guys. Some con artist on Monster.com, going by the name CeCe Records (cecerecordsadv1@yahoo.com) is running the following ad: “Survey Participants / Focus Group Panelist Starting $15.00 per hour” for all country regions. DO NOT FALL FOR IT. CeCe Records works for M4O simply to drum up business.
Yeah, I’m a fool for having fallen for their line and am twenty bucks the poorer to show for it.
Hope others read this before they make the same stupid mistake I did.

thank you Thank You THANK YOU!!! I received a job notice from Monster.com about this CeCe Records, which turned out to be Money4Opinions. I immediately smelled *scam* like you guys & tried searching for info - only finding this jewel of davidgagne.com amongst jillions of newspaper ads. What’s really scary is that they have an actual acct w/ PayPal, which gives them a legit aura they apparently don’t deserve, according to the 2 posts above. I’m SO very glad I didn’t fall for it. As a followup to my last post; I have called monster.com and they told me that they were aware and doing something about it. I also sent an e-mail to paypal and am waiting for an answer. It always helps to cloud up and rain all over these anul-retentive jerks that run scams to take advantage of us poor souls. Action always speaks louder than words. i am just sorry for those who fell for their scam. Thanks again for your site David.

Hey guys, found this page right after I signed up. I spent a long time looking for info on them. I’ll let you know how it goes. I figured $20 is what I spend on a “light” night out and it was worth the sacrifice of one night to see if this is true. There corporate info on their web page has a California address which I reverse looked up on superpages.com. It seems to be a legit address and the only related business in that shopping center is Black Belt Programming (internet company)

(310) 821-2663. There is a lso an attorney in the same shopping center and you better believe I will retain their services if this is a full-blown scam. I will be an attorney myself very soon and will not stand for this fraud especially preying on college students. I’ll keep you posted.

I’m old enough to know “If it sounds too good to be true. . .” and such, but when you’re desperate enough - well anyway, I’m sure glad that there, burried in google , was your website. Amazig how one search yields a little info before coughing up cash. Also beware of AllWorkathome.com, same principle in practice - send us money for a useless list. If it sounds to good to be true - it probably isnt.

Hey guys, here my update. What is your definition of scam? For many years now I have seen ads in almost every newspaper saying, “Porsche and other luxury cars, UNDER $500″. These have been ads for you to call an 800-number to receive a list of government auctions. you pay $25 and you get a crappy list you could have pulled yourself off the internet. THE POINT? You didn’t have to do the leg work so you paiod for it. M4Opinions seems to be the same deal. They have a list of 150 survey websites that you could have pulled up yourself. As I was going through each one I realized if I would have tried to find all these websites myself it would have taken more time than I can imagine not to mention I wouldn’t know when I had found the end of these kind of websites. HERE’S THE DEAL. From what I have seen about 40% of them lead you to places that pay cash for doing online surveys. The others enter you in drawings for cash or prizes (now that sounds like a scam!!) for your participation. Eleven hours later on a T1 connection I decided that if it came down to it, I would probably sell a list of sites that offer cash only surveys. I don’t have time to deal with that crap. Anyway I sgned up at aabout 20 survey sites and becuase each one requires some sort od demographic screening questionnare don’t expect to make money any time soon. If you sign up with enough of thes (I am assuming around 100 or so) you could in a few months have a decent monthly SUPPLEMENTAL income. The chances of you being chosen randomly or based on your initial questionnare on a daily bazis is slim. Online surveys I beklieve is a relatively young industry and service so it is probably pretty volatile as is the companies who run them. I PAID $20 FOR ABOUT A DAY’S WORTH OF WORK FOR SOMEBODY. Now they are trying to cash in. They are not very smart though because sites like this will kill them. So what took a day for them to do? They went to http://www.money4surveys.com followed and copied some links and than exploited the **** out of the notion of easy money for sitting on your ass in front of your computer like you do almost all day or all night (how else would you have found this site). THAT’S RIGHT KIDDIES go to http://www.money4surveys.com and this is what $20 got you. I warn you, even though it’s free, it’s very time consuming and who knows if it will pay off like you would expect it to. Good luck and I hope my $20 helps somebody out. I too was interested in making some pocket change and went into Monster to see what was listed today. I saw the numerous “cece records” listings and not hearing of this company previously, I used Google to check it out, maybe a “home” page. What I saw was David’s offerings of some wise people. So glad at my age I still have the internal instincts to check before parting with bucks. Thanks David, and those who have commented on this obvious scam. Can’t understand why “cece records” is still part of the Monster.com listings. Tell them to get rid of them ! !

Well I wish I had found this site earlier today via Monster.com. Yes, I was scammed by them too. Not for 19.95 though but for a whopping 39.95!
I felt a false sence of security because they took payment via PayPal. Uhhh…how could I have been so stupid? Well its desprate times I guess with a mortgage to pay and my husbands job cutting back to only 20 hours a weeks and two little ones to take care of one of which is autistic and requires me home for his care. So not knowing how the mortgage will be paid in a couple weeks I got desparate and falled for this. I only wished I had seen your site sooner:( This makes me sick!…Angie

David I saw the add while substitute teaching searching for work and e-mailed without success. I figured it was a dupe, but I did not follow it quickly and did not contact the company, but Google had your site pop right up when you searched for CECERecords.
Let me tell you I have been reading classifieds for years, sometimes one third of the adds are scams. If it is too good to sound true, then it is not.

I would have thought that monster.com had better screening and prevented most of the scams from getting through. Can you fix that? I am a HR Manager in the Anchorage, AK are and having been slow I was trying to help some of my employees find supplemental work. A few months ago i forked over a hard earned $20 and thought ignorantly “Hey I can make that twenty back in no time”. I was lazy for a few months and then remembered I could fill out surveys and get paid. SO when i went to the money4opinions.com website to start working, voila~, it’s not up anymore! Isnt this totally illegal somehow and cant the feds track these crooks down and refund all of us?

Why is this all in caps? the caps-lock is off. Anyway…….I was one of the idiots who fell for this trick too with m4o.com. i feel like we should all sue them, but how? I paid $20 for that stupid thing and they listed a bunch of stupid survey sites! the real ones you get pai d $3 for each survey and it doesn’t cost money to join. I asked m4o.com for my money back, but i haven’t heard from them since! ahhh!!!! so mad. i hope they get sued big time.

I have paid for a “directory” of work at home “opportunities” which arrived originally in the form of 10 lengthy emails, and I get “updates” approximately once a week. All the listings are nationwide, so it takes quite a bit of sifting through. I did pay paidopinions.com $29.95 for what turned out to be a list of websites on which you have to sign up in order to be sent surveys. It does save time re. the research, but that’s about it. A list of sites that pay cash only would be helpful. So far I have received about four surveys an was entered in to a drawing each time.
Speaking of CeCe records, I remember that ad on Monster and applied with no response. Also Onebox Enterprises posts “positions” for catalog workers and other at home jobs. It is impossible to get a response from them via email. I keep getting emails from them and other companies saying they have these positions, but the inquiring emails I have sent come back as undeliverable. What is the point? I also have informed monster.com of these issues.

I fell for the freakin scam to, and paid 39.95 for it. There old website is closed down, but thanks to one of the people that posted to this list there new site is Opinions4Dollars.com. I probably wont get my money back but….and in response to #15, its not the fact that we paid for a listing, but they suckered me in by promising that the minimum I would be paid was 15 bucks per survey. the ones I have filled out only entered me into a drawing. I dont even really care about the forty bucks to be honest, but I would love to see them go down for the deception.

Just wanted to let you know, I read another web page created by a woman who applied with Allworkathomejobs.com. She said this was definitely a SCAM. She paid money for training materials and was just sent a letter explaining how she could do the same thing to scam others out of money. I’m very grateful there are websites like hers and yours to keep us who are searching for a legitimate home-based job from being ripped off. Thank you & keep up the good work!

ANOTHER $39.95 MISTAKE!
You know, I SHOULD have smelled a rat when this whole thing started, but being that my wife and I were “OPEN” for this type of garbage, we fell for it and we paid. Although $40.00 isn’t a HUGE amount of money, it’s the thought that some FOOL and his friends are laughing at all the ones who were IGNORANT enough to do this that STEMS me!
We vowed that we would not do ANY more internet “Work From Home” schemes! A couple months ago, we were blessed enough to find ANOTHER home-based business that actually CARRIES OUT what they PROMISE to do! We have made and continue to make GREAT money and we’re running an HONEST and ETHICAL business that allows us to sleep at night! I only WISH I would have found the business we’re in now, before being scammed by these fools! Listen to the testimonies and steer clear of CeCe Records and money4opinions!

I have just logged on to Monster.com and there are 50 new nationwide ads, dated today (3/23/02), and posted by “Westbrooke Computers.” All these ads link to http://www.opinions4dollars.com. Westbrooke Computers is not listed in the Monster “Research Companies” index–what a surprise. I have not found an email address on Monster to send them a comment about this, and their 800 number is for Monday through Friday. This is probably why Westbrooke chose to post the ad just after midnight on a Saturday morning–2 full days of getting people to sign up before the ads can be pulled. Just a thought . . .

The ad states, “If you are interested in participating in online surveys that pay $15-$125 guaranteed(cash only)from any computer with internet access, please visit our website for immediate participation at:http//www.opinions4dollars.com.”
As Ray Magliozzi of “Car Talk” would say - “BOGUS!”
I was skeptical too. I adhere to the notion that if something sounds to good to be true, it really is too good to be true. I see that there are many here that propose the same. I never really thought that it could possibly be true, but I was curious. It’s amazing that there are so many unscrupulous individuals - grifters in the game of e-commerce. They are parasites!
At this moment there are 54 ads posted for Opinions4dollars by POWERHOUSE TRUCKING.

I just sent Monster.Com and email about this company!! Your website saved me $40.00. I would hope that Monster.Com has some way to BLACKLIST companies that are repeats at posting scams on their website. Seems to me a simple program that would do a search for scam names would work…tie it in to the submit ad button so it does a search before the “job” gets posted!!

Thanks so much for this page. I also received the Monster job notification on this company. I thought it sounded too good to be true. I sent an email to Monster about it. I hope they will remove the listings quickly. In addition, I noticed that they are currently using an America Online email address, so I sent notification to them, as well. I don’t know if they can do anything about the website, since it doesn’t reside on their servers, but maybe my report will cause them a little bit of grief and/or inconvenience. Thanks again for saving so many people from this scam!

I’ve done some searching on Google, and it appears that National Home Employment Services http://www.nhes.net is the same kind of ripoff. I found the ad from http://WWW.ALLWORKATHOMEJOBS.COM via Monster during a desperate period that I went through a couple of months ago but something just wouldn’t let me take the gamble. I could really use extra money to help me recup and catch up on somethings from that period and like the rest of us on this site we are people willing to do honest work to pay for what we need or want. I was just about to fold and decided to load the website into MSN which returned a not recognized message back. I loaded it into Yahoo where they came up with your site as well. So here I am. Thankful to you and everyone who placed their comments about their own personal experiences. This is a total scam! I paid the $19.95 and every survey that I tried to participate in was down and not accepting any new feedback. Also, I’ve just tried to access the site again and it seems to have been shut down. I actually saw their posting on monster.com and monster should be made aware that this “company” is a fraud.

http://www.opinions4dollars.com is now shut down. After reading everything posted here I went back to the site I followed a link that will let you know who owns the site. I found an e-mail address and sent them one just to see if I got a response and guess what… the email came back undeliverable. These people may or may not be doing anything illegal but how trust worthy is a business that changes it’s web site and emial address so often. Thanks for saving me the $39.99!

Thanks! I found this on hotjobs.com and I can’t believe that nobody verifies this information. Take up to 1000 surveys a day paying between $15-$110 a piece. Give me a break. If you also notice that on paidopinions.com there are no to terms and conditions on the site and when I went to MSN and ran a search there were no matching records. These guys obviously change their name when the heat goes up and try and land the next set of desperate people looking for a buck. With all the scams and spam it will be necessary to put regulations in place to combat these $%^#$%^’s that will, of course affect the rest of the on line population. I wonder how all these thieves would fair in jail because that it where they belong. As long as there are no reprecussions what is going to stop them. Harsh emails, I don’t think so. The Monster/ Hot jobs type websites really need to be more proactive. It’s a shame, nobody gives a damn anymore. Maybe I am wrong you care, wish there was more of you than the other way around.

Thanks for this site. It was the only one I could find that could verify that paidopinions.com appears to be a scam as well. Someone asked about how to find these guys. It’s actually fairly easy. If you go to directnic.com or any other domain registration you can whois the domain name. Usually there’s a name, address, & phone number. You can always call these people up and tell them what you think of their scams! >:)
paidopinions.com comes up with no real name, a PO box in Leesburg, VA, and a phone number of (703)318-5620. The email is dphservice@aol.com. Sounds real legitimate eh?

Thanks for looking out for Internet fraud. PaidOpinions.com has just posted another request for online surveys/focus groups (6/22) and I’m glad I found your site here after trying in vain to get anything from the Maryland Better Business Bureau. Apparently PaidOpinions is a “subsidiary” of DPH Inc. with an address in Columbia Park, MD and no phone number. If you search for DPH Inc. on switchboard.com, you get a phone number that is an answering service, asking you to identify yourself before the call goes through. How dumb do they think people are, anyway?

However, the skeptic in me KNEW there had to be something whether good, bad or indifferent, about them on the web. Lo and behold here it is. I just wanted to put my own little comment in. I have a lot of problems with the way you guys are talking about this company. First of all, I have done *actual* research, and have found out that http://www.money4opinions.com is now http://www.dollars4opinions.com. The site http://www.opinions4money.com is completely unrelated to them. I have signed up with http://www.opinions4money.com and have actually had good results. The $18.95 was made back in 2 weeks, and I’ve made around $150 since then, plus received a lot of cool stuff. No, it wasn’t quite what I expected, but if you read closely you’ll know what you are paying for before you spend your money. Instead of bitching, why don’t you all just try using the links and signing up and actually making money?

Look in the yellow pages , Market Research and start calling all of them . Your key words : “Do you have any Focus Group I can join” , these are focus/opinion discussion groups and you earn money at the end of the sessions .

I knew it sounded too good to be true. I’ve done lots of focus groups and the one thing that was always true is they pay YOU, you NEVER have to pay THEM.. ever. That’s the only way they can have an impartial person who fit’s their criteria, not just Joe trying to make extra cash to suppliment thier income.

I was dumb enough to join and pay the $20. Once you pay the $20 half of the companies they refer you to you have to register and wait and are garunteed nothing. It’s a site with broken links. I have asked them repeatedly for my money back and they say it must be done in writting. They will not refund acredit card, although that is how you must give them your money. Don’t use the site. It’s ahorried scam. I turned them into monster.com and they were atleast going to review and probably ban them from thier site.

Wow! I can’t believe that they are able to run this scam through Monster jobs! I’m so glad I looked into this, thank you for this website. I am angry! The first post on here regarding paidopinions.com was back in March. I just got a job match update from Monster jobs to my personal email account listing paidopinions in October! How can they continue this, after they have known about the parent company for almost a year now? I don’t think I’m going to use Monster anymore.

SEVERAL MONTHS I WROTE ON THIS COLUMN ABOUT A WEBSITE CALLED opinions4dollars.com
Re-Andre Head, 1324 W.73rd Street, Los Angeles CA 90004 is the so-called administrator. I found a phone # too- 310-655-4402. I filed a report with the BBB of Southland, 315 N.LaCadena, Colton, CA 92324, phone 909-825-7280 (CMPL ID10271077) and they told me they would investigate. They were no help. Since Mr. Head never answered his correspondence there was nothing they could do except note this in their report. They mentioned there were many complaints. So impotent. I wrote a letter to Mr. Head. No answer and no letter returned back. I called the number . Rap music voice mail picked it up the phone-NOT ABLE TO LEAVE MESSAGE ON THIS.. Now what? Their email address 04DResearchGroup@aol.com is active but no response ever from anyone. Anybody else want to get involved. I am sick of this whole thing.

4my2cents.com refunded my money without hesitation when I requested it. While I do think the site doesn’t fully explain what the $30 is for, they did treat me fairly. I retract the statement I made about getting screwed by them. I stated that in haste as I feared that I wasted money on the internet. We need exact addresses, URLs and names. (We never tell customer they need to send a ‘letter in writing’ to request refunds!)
Furthermore, Clickbank states they never said the things about us which you’ve posted. We have this in writing (signed by Clickbank) as supporting evidence for court that your remarks are false and libellous!
Unless we immediately receive the above metioned info from you, we will persue this, as your statements about us are completely false and libellous!

This is a crapy appology for them threatening for over 3 days and telling me that I have to take back everything I’ve said. I’d hate to realy ever say anything with a real e-mail that is traceable by them. So some word of addvice, go get a hotmail account, make up everything about who you are and then use that e-mail to post how you truely feel about all of theese companies.

Thanks for putting up your site. I would caution anyone to stay away from any “Pay To Work” site such as PAIDOPINIONS.COM. As of Nov 6, the Better Business Bureau has attemped to contact DPH/Paid Opinions multiple times and they have not responded. The BBB simply requests information about a company’s services, products and the owners for listing information. Any legitimate business owner would respond to BBB inquiries expeditiously.
To anyone thinking about shelling out $29.95 for employment - do the math -
a simple posting on a nationally visible job website with only 1000 paid responses over a 30 day period yields nearly $30,000 to the posting company, all at arms length, faceless and convenient. Even with that small per-month number, that’s $360,000 per year. Plus, these companies now have your credit card information.
Some have been known to wait months before applying “mysterious charges” to the credit card numbers they have obtained, thus making the trail less visible/traceable. It’s easy money only for the company posting these scam jobs. They are usually networks of persons operating at various addresses around the country, changing names and info once a situation gets too hot. You can incorporate for as little as a thousand dollars and disolve a company for less than two hundred. With that in mind, shovelling out emails and links to survey sites that enter people in bogus drawings has very little costs for them and insures a high profit margin. Keep up the good work on your site!

WARNING
I’ve done extensive reasearch and Paid Opinions and other survey sites that ask for a nominal payment for a membership are designed to defraud consumers. Additionally these sites are set up as off-shore companies.
They remain under the radar of US law enforcement for two reasons 1) consumers are students or the working poor and 2) they hide themselfs very well in the http://WWW.
If you were duped into paying for access to there idex of sites consider it a life tutition payment.
I recomend a site “greenfieldonline.com” it’s a good site and you will make about $200.00 per year and there is no cost for sigining up.

UPDATE!!!! NEW INFORMATION!!!
I’ve done A LOT of research and asking around and I’ve found that the Home of Re-Ande Head (1324 W. 73rd Street), is located in the heart of South Central Los Angeles. Given this information and the demographics of this particular area, this scam is more than likely ran by African Americans or Latinos. Moreover, I found that the company addresses of both M40 and D40 are actually addresses of the postal service company Mail Boxes Etc. and not actual suites. How are they getting away with all of this!?! These survey companies are definitely illegitimate.

IMHO it’s best to complain staight to the HOSTING SERVICE of the scammer’s web-site. If they think they’re going to get bad press, or could be implicated as an accessory, etc. they may take the site down. If everyone complains, they are more likely to listen.
The hosts for http://www.paidopinionsnetwork.com are a company called Zeus:- http://www.zeus.com.

The general rule of thumb is if a site or job demands a down payment to “qualify” for employment, then it IS a scam.
When was the last time you had to pay a fee to land a job? Probably never.
If these sites are legit, and it is necessary for them to collect such fees, they could do so somewhere down the line as you make your profit, rather than up front.

I looked up careersfromhome.com on the Better Business Bureau web site http://search.bbb.org/search.html and decided NOT to waste my money on them based on the information provided. Take a look at the report to make your own decision. It seems the key thing to keep in mind with them is that they are not a placement agency or a recruiting firm. It sounds like they search the internet looking for telecommuting opportunities which are readily available to the public anyway. If you think this type of service would save you time then it might be worth it to you. Also be wary of the language they use regarding the companies they list on their home page; they are careful to say those companies “have typically hired telecommuters in the past”, they are not saying that those companies are currently hiring.

I signed up to efree stores. However there is not a number where you can contact them. There is a support email address, however they have yet to respond to my questions. I think this may be a scam. If it is indeed so, I just lost 20 bucks. I could not find anything on them concerning a scam. Buyer Beware.

I fell for this crap, I forwarded my resume via hotjobs for this junk, then I got a email directing me the paidopinions.com website, as soon as I got to the site I smelled !*SCAM!*, the didn’t have all the information, the language and wording seemed borrowed, no about us section when I looked up their record no contact info DPH Corporation with PO BOX 2331 with an admin email of dphservice@aol.com there is phone number there as well, I will call later on and ask.
Can’t you dispute the amount with paypal or your credit card company once you find out that this is a scam, I would urge all of you who paid to contact Paypal and your CC companies and file a dispute, they are a scam and you should’t be held liable.

Afternoon All. I saw the paidopinions.com on Hotjobs. I just wanted to tell you all about my experience. I sent in my resume according to instructions on Hotjobs. Paid.. sent an email back saying it would cost a one time fee of 29.95. I paid with my credit card & they sent me a login name & a password to get into their members only site. On the site they give a 1 1/2 page list of survey websites that you have to log in into as many as possible. Some are paid to read emails, others are surveys & different things. It is very time consuming because you have to put in your personal info like your address & demographics. Just about all of the paid to read emails only pay .005 cent per email. Basically they are paying you to send all kind of junk mail to your inbox. Some even give an incentive of $10.00 to start but in order to get paid your account has to have $20 in it to get a check in the mail. At .005 cents per email you would have to open a whole lot of the emails they send. They try to get you to sign up as many people as possible thru referrals so that you can benefit from their emails read as well. The surveys that pay minimum $4.00 & above you must qualify for according to your demographics. If you don’t qualify you get entered into sweepstakes drawings for cash. After 30 days of this nonsense I sent an email to them and requested a refund of the fee. I was not pleased with the promises that they made & with the economy that’s 29.95 that I couldn’t afford to lose. By the grace of the Lord they did refund my money the same day if not the next day. My advise don’t waste you time unless you can afford to. Honestly, you could look up the same websites yourself. What you are paying for is the research that someone else did. I hope this helps someone.

Hi!
This site is terrific and enlightening. Just wanted to let everyone know that http://www.paidopinions.com has taken their ad off of hotjobs.com. I had been checking hotjobs.com almost daily since the end of last year and paidopinions had listed an ad every day. They listed 10 job openings in 20 different cities (changing the cities daily).
Maybe they will run an ad again because I just checked and their site is still up and running.
Hope this information helps anyone, but I’m writing this just to let you know the latest info.
I did notice, as all of you probably did, that a someone from paidopinions.com posted on this board on July 25, 2002.
Actually I’m not sure if they did really post or it was a cut and paste from another site? I say this because I didn’t see any responses to the person. I wonder if David, the owner of this site, posted it because he got it from somewhere else? I’m must sound kind of dumb here (I’m actually above normal intelligence I think ;)), but the paidopinions.com on post in July here was kind of confusing.

I got their email about the $29.95 or whatever, and was seriously considering just doing it because what the hell, right? But before I did all that I decided to search it just to see what came up, that $30 wouldve taken me a few hours of (conventional) work to make up and I wanted to make sure it was worth it.. heh.. well, lets just say I’ll be keeping my money and writing a nice email to the BBB… Thanks again for your site!!

If you want to be paid for your opions try mystery shopping. There are many sites out there. Try Delphi Forums, Violition.com for example. I make about $300 in shopper fees and reimbursements. It’s a little lenghty at times and best of all you NEVER should have to pay to sign up.
