Titletown, Florida

Corey BewerCan there possibly ever have been a better time to be a Florida Gator? Basketball … then football … then basketball again?! I almost — almost — feel bad for Ohio State. We don’t even consider them “rivals”, but they must hate us now.

The Gators became the first team to go back-to-back since 1992 and the first ever to repeat with the same starting five.

They finished with a 10-game winning streak and haven’t lost a postseason game in 18 tries, counting sweeps at the Southeastern Conference tournaments the last two years.

The Florida Gators are, in sum, why we love college basketball.

Last year was for a ring. This year was for history and something as simple and pure as a teammate’s respect. That’s a legacy.

Why go to Kentucky?” junior Corey Brewer said. “When’s the last time they won a national title?”

Bad Kitty Fans

Kentucky AD Mitch Barnhart wrote a letter to Florida basketball coach Billy Donovan, apologizing for Kentucky students’ behavior on the final regular-season game.

Students held up a sign with the picture of Florida star Matt Walsh’s girlfriend, Playboy playmate Lauren Anderson, portrayed in a revealing top with CATS written on it.

Okay, so I don’t get it. In Kentucky they were taunting one of our players for dating a Playboy Playmate? In what alternate universe do the Kentucky fans think it is not a good thing to be dating a Miss July?

Roundball

Wednesday, December 5, 2001

On a schedule littered with the Belmonts, Stetsons, and High Points of the world sits a team that has made the last three Final Fours and won the national title two seasons ago.
Florida basketball fans will be treated to a real rarity when No. 24 Michigan State plays No. 6 Florida at 7 tonight at the O’Connell Center. It will be only the second time during Billy Donovan’s six-year tenure at Florida that a ranked non-conference team has played at the O-Dome.
