I’m Looking through You - The Wallflowers

One of my favorite songs is All Along the Watchtower by Bob Dylan. I am always looking for covers of it. I have versions by Dave Matthews Band, Jimi Hendrix, the Indigo Girls, and U2. Amazon XML? Google API? Web services? You want some cool web services?

The Covers Project … building a database of cover songs (songs performed by an artist other than the original performer) with the intention of creating cover “chains.” A cover chain is a set of songs in which each song is a cover of a song by the band who covered the preceding song.

So far, we have 6,075 songs (4,188 unique) and 2,960 artists catalogued. The longest “chain” we know about contains 43 songs.

I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of the soundtrack to I Am Sam! This new movie (directed by Jessie Nelson; starring Sean Penn and Michelle Pfeiffer) will feature a bunch of Beatles covers by artists like Eddie Vedder and the Black Crowes. Eddie doing You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away? Excellent!

I am heartbroken to learn that I missed the rebroadcast of TNT’s Come Together: A Night For John Lennon’s Words & Music. I was out Tuesday night and forgot to tape it and last night I didn’t even know it was being shown. Now the details at TNT say that it won’t air again any time in the next three months. Crap! I really wanted to see it. My uncle said that Stone Temple Pilots did an awesome acoustic version of Revolution, and I read somewhere that Dave Matthews was perfect. I’m hoping they release a CD of the event. They’d be crazy to not, right? If anyone finds any mp3s from the show, please let me know.

Aside: The TNT site is the best of the major network sites I’ve seen. The little schedule window in the upper-right hand corner is perfect. Funny Farm will air at 5 am tomorrow!

Blue Monday - Orgy

Yeah, I know: This is a cover of an awesome, classic New Order song. I really like this version, too, though. I’m a sucker for covers. My favorite part of a live concert is getting to hear a band cover something.

At some point in my life I owned a copy of Depeche Mode performing a Behind the Wheel / Route 66 medley. I have been going nuts for a few days trying to find it. I can’t find it on any of my CDs or tapes. Somebody help me! Which album has this song?!
