There is an excellent glossary of rowing terms on the NBC Olympics site.

Old T-Shirts as a Quilt
I really dig the idea of Campus Quilt. I have probably a good two hundred t-shirts from crew and college; and growing up in Daytona was like living in a land of free t-shirts. And, hey, they say that “We completely quilt the entire quilt on a commercial quilting machine.” It’s quiltarific!

Florida Crew Alumni Search
Hey, Florida Crew Alumni! One of the current rowers, Kerri Riva, is attempting to find everyone. If you used to row for UF, drop her a line and let her know how to find you. Hell, drop me a line and let me know how to find you. (I highly doubt she’s trying to get anyone back into a boat. It took me 30min to pull a pathetic 6531m tonight. Check the sidebar of this page to see how I’m doing …)

Nude Rowing
Nude, and loving it - The members of Scotland’s Robert Gordon University Crew team, who, according to captain Andrew Shannon, are training in the buff to “find out what natural assets we have for rowing.” The team, which has braved wintry conditions while preparing for next month’s Aberdeen Universities boat race, consists of four female rowers, four male rowers, and a female cox.

USRowing
The USRowing web site is essentially the same as it was five years ago. It’s incredible that this is the organization that basically runs the sport of crew in the United States and they haven’t bothered to make the most simple of upgrades. There must be thousands of rowers who are also computer geeks. Their product / merchandise page, just as it was five years ago, is so bug-ridden that you cannot possibly purchase anything. It’s terrific that the grey sweatshirt that I love is on sale for only $22.50, but since web users don’t have cgi permissions on the server, there’s no way to add one to your “cart”. C’mon, guys! Somebody over there really needs to move into at least the late-90s. When I traded in the Isuzu Rodeo for my Nissan Frontier I forgot to remove my spiffy USRowing license plate frame. I’d love to buy a new one (Only $6.00!) but they apparently only want to pretend to sell things …

Searching for Michael Sapp
So here’s an interesting idea. I used to have a pal named Mike Sapp. We rowed together for Florida Crew in ‘95 and ‘96. I can’t find him. I’ve looked. I’ve tried all his old eMail addresses. None work. I’ve tried all the internet people-finders and looker-uppers. No dice. Then I thought, “Maybe he reads this page every now and then … maybe some reader knows him …” If you do know Mike, or know how I can find him, or you are him, drop me a line. Do you know Mike?

David Rows
Here are five shots of me rowing. I sat two-seat for almost every race. These pictures do not do the sport justice.

Crew at the University of Florida
Well the UF College of Health and Human Performance has finally decided to allow Florida Crew to post their page again. If you’ve never been to the site, spend a few minutes there. When I was on crew [the jurassic period] my boat once whipped a boat from RPI. When you beat a crew on the water (if it’s a *real* race) the losers have to give their shirts to the winners. I am the only one I know that owns a red RPI tank top. My best friend and his older brother both went to RPI for a time. I could go on for pages, but the point is that there is no point to this post …

Links
One of my old crew cronies, Mike, has got a brand new blog.
I am still taking requests for the MetaCamPage … several of you made great suggestions and I am working on them. I think you’ll love the results.

Weekend
MT had me convinced that We’re in This Together was the best song on fragile. He was incorrect. Starfuckers, Inc. just totally blows me away.
And now that I’m on the subject … Why do I keep talking like I’m a valley girl / surf rat from 1988 all of a sudden?! I’m like, y’know, totally coming up with these random, like, comments and I don’t know why and I can’t seem to stop it!
Pipes was wearing a tube top last night at On the Border and is really sick of us calling her Pipes so now we’re going to call her TT (for tube top, duh). I kept thinking that wearing a tube top was tubular - how lame is *that*?
We had a great combination going-away to South Florida (Ron) / going-away to prison (our favorite neighborhood felon) party after the Cinco de Mayo festivities at On the Border. Chris’ Apartment of Sin was dangerously fun-filled last night. Luckily no one was injured (much). I managed to make it home before sunrise. It’s always slightly disconcerting to find the morning paper has made it to your doorstep before you.
