I have hundreds of photos of other people golfing, but I’m always the one with the camera. That means I don’t usually get too many shots of myself. My dad took this one and I think it’s pretty good. If you view the full size version by clicking the photo you can just make out the ball going straight as an arrow down the fairway. Trust me: This is a rare event when I’m at the tee. This shot’s from the Stadium Course at the TPC in Scottsdale, AZ.

Christmas Eve Kayaks
Here’s another one of my dad’s photographs. He’s been kayaking all over New England for the last year or so. He’s got a thing set up so he can have his camera on the end of the kayak while he’s … er … kayaking. (Y’know, there really aren’t any synonyms for kayaking.) I just think it’s a cool shot.

I am testing the Upload File feature in MovableType 1.3 right now. This is one of my dad’s photographs. It’s a geranium in bloom. I thought I specified that it should be in a different directory when I uploaded it. Either I did it incorrectly or there is a bug in MT1.3. I’ll have to try again …

My dad is a gifted photographer. He takes some of the most amazing photos I’ve ever seen. He recently acquired a digital camera and has been having a ball with it, I know. He has had several of his prints sell at art houses scattered across Rhode Island; they’re really that good.
For a while - when his printer and scanner were both working - he was making notecards from his photos and they sold well, too. We’ve been trying to find a way for him to sell some of his stuff on-line, and PrintOnClick might work. Apparently they will allow you to host images on your own site and include a link so readers can buy 8×10s (or any size you specify) of the digital file from their site. It seems like a pretty good concept, and I know there is some hassle involved in actually getting digital photos into a format (i.e. a physical, paper print) that a grandmother can hold and frame. I’m going to look into their terms and conditions, but everything appears to be quite legitimate.
I have dozens of his photos on my hard drive(s), and I know he has - literally - hundreds of them on CDs and floppies and filed and stored away at his home in Portsmouth, RI. I’m also thinking about making a blog for him to post his favorites. MovableType is certainly simple enough that I could teach him how to upload the files and write captions or something.

Coffee Shop Photo
A few weeks ago I bought a Sony CyberShot DSC-S50 Digital Camera. This is the coolest toy! I love it! I grabbed it on sale at Staples for considerably less than I could find it on-line anywhere, and I reviewed it at epinions.com and a few digital photo web sites before I made my decision. I’ve been snapping pictures of everything that even remotely interests me. Digital photography is - in my humble opinion - far superior to 35mm or APS.
See, I love taking pictures but I can’t stand having photographs. What the heck do you do with them all? I have stacks of prints scattered (literally) across the country. I never get around to putting them in photo albums or categorizing them or … They just end up in shoe boxes in closets and they add to my already-overwhelming sense of organizational failure. I don’t have to worry about that with digital photos. I don’t have to buy film! I can take twenty pictures of the same thing and just delete the ones I don’t like without having to pay to develop bad shots and without wondering if a shot is worth taking. I have a CD burner, too, so I can easily file digital photos however I want. I’m kicking myself for not having bought a digital camera sooner.

Nice People Swallow
There’s been a redesign at Swallowing Tacks. Elise is a great read, so if you don’t visit her regularly, now is the perfect time to start. Check out her awesome collection of Desktop Images while you’re there. My three favorites? Cocktail Hour, Fresh Hell, and Aloha
Right now I’m using this beautiful photo as my desktop. It’s a flower barrel on the edge of the lake at Uncle Richie’s house in Maine. (462k)

I Love That Muddy Water
There are some fabulous photos of Boston at percenttwenty.org. I’m just drooling for a digital camera now. I got to experiment with my dad’s new Fuji digi-cam this weekend; got some great shots. Oh, and I learned that Ryan just got a the Elph I want! Man! I need to get some money. A whole bunch. Anyone? Anyone?

Fuji MX-2900
Dad tells me that he just snagged one of these at a church auction for $275. Nice. I can’t wait to see some photos. My dad’s a great photographer and I’m excited because I think with him being digital now I’ll get to post more of his stuff here.
I’m positively drooling over the Elph, but I don’t see it happening for a few months at least …

I just learned that most of the photographs at Ocean State Adventures were taken by my dad!
Way to go, dad!

Mirror Project
I discovered The Mirror Project while visiting TheBrad.
The Mirror Project is a growing collection of like minded individuals who have snapped their likenesses in a variety of reflective surfaces.
Nifty idea, eh?
