Last night Tricia and I went to see Tamar at the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood. She played a great set and we had a good time. We didn’t get home until after 11, and I couldn’t get to sleep.
I was up until 1:30am reading Dark Tide: The Great Boston Molasses Flood of 1919. What a crazy story! Can you imagine seeing a 50′ tall wave of molasses barreling towards you at 35mph? And the ten-year legal battle that followed was one of the country’s first major class-action lawsuits. Truly a fascinating tale.
Tonight is our big engagement party at the Viper Room. We’ve got the club reserved for the night, which is pretty flipping cool. (Give me a ring if you want to get on the guest list.) Our good friends Von Cotton play at 9pm and our other good friends becky start their set at 11pm. It should be a pretty wild time.

I am sure that there are still plenty of people in the world that don’t know this yet, so I have a bit of an announcement to make. I am now officially off the market.
It feels a bit awkward to write about it here, which is strange because I have used this site to talk about almost everything else that’s happened to me in the last seven years. And getting engaged is certainly a biggie. Most everyone knows that Tricia and I have been dating for about six years now.

My girlfriend and I spent most of the last week in Mexico. One of her best friends got married at the El Dorado Royale resort in Cancun. Almost five full days of tequila and sun makes for a pretty good time. The place was terrific and the wedding was lovely. I’d love to say more, but every day was wonderfully monotonous — wake up, breakfast buffet with bloody mary, lay in the pool reading magazines with a never-ending margarita, lunch buffet, cervezas on the beach, dinner buffet, martini bar evenings … If you’ve never done an “all-inclusive” vacation, you don’t know what you’re missing.

The wedding of Melissa Overton and Ryan Tober was Saturday, May 18, 2002. I was the Best Man and had a terrific time. This is a photo of the Brothers Tober that I took shortly before the ceremony. They are three really great guys and I was honored to be in the wedding party. I shot almost 300 digital photos and some of them are, IMHO, excellent. I’m working on getting them all onto CD so I can send the images to their families; let me know if you’re interested in a copy.
