Believe

You can win the World Series every year. You only have one chance to destroy the Yanks. As my friend Mike (a Tigers fan) wrote me last night, “Everyone outside of Yankee brats are celebrating quietly with you guys. It’s like you killed Michael Myers, Jason, Freddie Kreueger and Hannibal Lecter in one night.”

Red Sox v. Yankees

Wednesday, May 30, 2001

Go Sox! In a matchup of two of the best righthanded pitchers in the game, Mike Mussina and Pedro Martinez renew acquaintances tonight when the New York Yankees battle the Boston Red Sox for the 11th time this season. Last Thursday, Mussina (5-4, 3.44 ERA) struck out a season-high 12 batters over eight innings to outduel three-time Cy Young Award winner Martinez (6-1, 1.60) as the Yankees edged their archrivals, 2-1. Martinez already can be considered the favorite for the 2001 American League Cy Young award. He leads starters in ERA and strikeouts, while giving up just two home runs in 10 starts. Go Sox!

Go Sox! Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees
Although it is still May, a large crowd and a playoff-type atmosphere should be expected Tuesday night when the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees begin a three-game series. The Yankees are returning home from a 2-4 road trip and are 1 1/2 games behind the Red Sox for the lead in the American League East.
Go Sox!
