Steve Spurrier is getting the band back together.
The Washington Redskins’ schedule should be renamed the UF All-Star Reunion Tour 2002.
In his debut season, the former UF coach has brought a couple of old friends – quarterback Danny Wuerffel and wide receiver Chris Doering – to the nation’s capital for the Redskins tour bus.
I think Spurrier’s lost it on multiple levels. He should have held out for the T.B. job where they’ve already got a solid defense, and then he could have implemented the all-Florida offense, using Wuerffel to back-up or help with the learning curve. Anybody think DW (or Shane Mattews for that matter) ever stands a chance of starting in the NFL again (world league aside)? Of course, two different idjits let the constantly confused (who am I, why am I here?)Tony Banks start for their teams in successive seasons…
If Spurrier’s really gonna re-unite UF under a QB, he needs to look at stealing Grossman away from Florida after this season.
I don’t think this is as significant as some folks think it is, although it is interesting and kinda cool. The real purpose, I think, is to have these former UFers help everybody learn the offensive system, whether they play a whole lot or not. I don’t think Wuerffel will end up starting but would be a great resource for whomever does.
What baffles me is that he just signed Dameyune Craig, former Auburn guy, as well. I guess it could be considered the all-SEC reunion tour.
Redskins have acquired three former Gators players, trading for former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel and signing wide receivers Chris Doering and Reidel Anthony as free agents. The team is attempting to trade for another former Florida quarterback, Shane Matthews, and could add Willie Jackson and Jacquez Green, former Gators wide receivers who are unrestricted free agents.
