blingIt’s hard to believe that I’ve been actively blogging for thirteen years now. And yet here we are. I wonder how many people remember that this site was originally called “bling”? That was short for “rambling”, which is what I felt like I always did here. Thirteen years is a long time to be rambling on the Internet.

Does anyone remember the banner that Bryan made for me? (Does anyone remember altruistically / comically making banners for other websites? Remember #blogIRC?)

Just for reference:

  • I started blogging here in March of 2000.
  • Wikipedia and iTunes were both launched in January of 2001.
  • WordPress was launched in May of 2003.
  • Facebook was launched in February of 2004.
  • Twitter was launched in March of 2006.
  • The first iPhone was released in June of 2007.

I'll never share your email address and it won't be published.

What Is This? is the personal weblog of me, David Vincent Gagne. I've been publishing here since 1999, which makes this one of the oldest continuously-updated websites on the Internet.

A few years ago I was trying to determine what cocktails I could make with the alcohol I had at home. I searched the App Store but couldn't find an app that would let me do that, so I built one.
