TWL

Today might be the day. A few months ago I was a contestant on The Weakest Link. No, not the prime-time game show with the annoying British host. The show is so ridiculously popular that NBC decided to syndicate it. There is now a daytime version with an annoying American host. The total amount you can win is much less and there are not the same number of contestants on each episode, but it’s essentially the same game. I think. I’ve only seen a few minutes of the prime-time TWL, and I haven’t been able to catch any of the daytime ones. If you’re interested in watching me on TV though, today might be the day. There is a bit of confusion about this. Last week I got a voice mail from one of the assistant producers. She told me that I was going to be on episode 006 which would air at either 3 pm or 3:30 pm (PST) on our local NBC affiliate on January 14. (Yes, they actually air the same program in consecutive time slots here.) The next day I got a voice mail from a different assistant producer. He said that I would be on episode 0006 which would air at 3 pm on January 9. It didn’t seem like he knew that the first ap had called and left a message; he wasn’t correcting an error or giving me a “follow-up” message. I guess there’s every chance that I might be on television on the 9th and the 14th.
You’ll have to check your local affiliates to see when The Weakest Link’s daytime show is airing in your area. I’ve been told that it might be on a different network in different parts of the country, so …
If you can, tape it or TiVo it for me! I’ll set a VCR to record it here, but you know how I am with technical devices and such … A backup would certainly be nice.

  1. That is too freakin’ cool — thanks for the heads-up! And congrats on bringing home the bacon…

  2. I was reportedly seen on NBC in Bonita Springs, FL at 3 pm (EST) today.

  3. We get the show at night, not during the day! So guess what *I* will be recording on Tivo? Yep, I will be looking for you! Whoo hooo!!! That is just too damn cool. Seriously cool. I’ll let you know if I catch it on the Tivo!

  4. oh **** , did I miss it??? Was it shown here in LA?

  5. I’d love to see this – not sure if it’s being broadcast up in Canada or not – anyone have the bandwidth to spare to put some choice bits online?

I’m not a fan of the original at all (it’s too long, and i find Anne Robinson’s witticisms rather tiring)… but it’d be interesting to watch someone I know (even vaguely)…

  6. Ya looked good, mav, damned good…and you certainly can’t complain about how much face time you got. Hell, even George didn’t annoy me as much as I expected he might. (I suspect he had a crush on you. Hey, who can blame a fella for that?) Sandy, on the other hand…

Your performance is trapped in my TiVo. Let me know if you need a copy.

  7. that is so beyond cool! i would love to be on TV. WOW!

  8. Dude, man! “Soul Train!” How can you not know a question about Soul Train?

(Actually, you got on the show and won, whereas I applied twice and got in neither times. I suck. You rule.)

  9. David you rock! I didn’t get to see it, but I am sure I will see the tape one day. I’m sorry you didn’t win, the others must have been jealous of your obvious brilliance:0)

  10. Ava,
I *did* win! I was *not*the weakest link. I was the strongest link. It was a very good day! There’s no reason to be sorry for me. :0)

  11. You *still* haven’t been on in Houston yet! I have set a season pass on my Tivo and everything. Sigh. I have watched every episode since 1/9/2002. Maybe. Someday. Soon. Maybe tonight! I’ll keep watching until I see it!
