Port Problems

Posted and filed under blogging, Software.

For some reason I cannot FTP or SMTP to davidgagne.net from my office. I know you’re asking, “David, what does that mean?” It means I can’t upload anything to my site from work (no new songs!), I can’t send eMail through my davidgagne.net account from work, and I can’t modify any of the files at… Read more »

Miami, Part II

Posted and filed under My Life, travel.

Grrr … and, even though I can access GreyMatter to post, for some reason the folks at AT&T have determined that davidgagne.net is a porn site or something. The Public Phone 2000i won’t let me view my own page. So. I guess I’ll go read Rolling Stone. The paper, handheld, old-fashioned version. In a chair…. Read more »

require www in URL

It drives me nuts that you need to enter the www to get to the University of Florida Home Page. Just typing ufl.edu won’t get you there.

Available Domain Names

Posted and filed under Web Design.

The available domain name of the week from splorp.com is a handy and fun little web resource. I remember visiting the site early last year and seeing some great names. This is a site for the people who complain that all the good www names are taken. This week’s available name is plaintextarchive.com. Check ‘em… Read more »

domain name expired

As far as I can tell, I got… Read more »

Pope John Paul II is considering naming Saint Isidore of Seville the patron saint of Internet users and computer programmers. The Vatican first went online in 1996 with its Web site www.vatican.va, which it has used to publish thousands of Catholic Church documents and Papal speeches. The site is powered by three host computers named… Read more »

Nintendo and CrackerJap

Posted and filed under News.

Nintendo still apparently believed that “Pokemon” in Crackerjap’s meta tag was so harmful to its business that it had to threaten legal action. Why? Because for some reason, Nintendo thought that Crackerjap.com was a porn site.

Crazy Planet

So. I’m driving home from Four Green Fields tonight and I stop to grab some donuts and beer. After 11 pm everything in Tampa closes, even on the weekends, so I have to go to the Shell down on Gandy and Dale Mabry. Guy I know there is behind the counter as usual and I… Read more »

Connection

Posted and filed under technology.

Right now Bud clocks in at 485.7 Kbps (59.5 K bytes/sec) at Microsoft’s Bandwidth Speed Test. This is considerably better than the 19.4 Kbps he used to get through the old 28.8 modem. I don’t know how that compares to ADSL, but I don’t really care. It’s plenty fast for me.
