My mom loved “Do not go gentle into that good night”, and I have thought about that poem quite a bit since she died. Last week I stood in Poets’ Corner in Westminster Abbey and explained who Dylan Thomas was to my son. When Taylor Swift released ttpd a few days later, I heard the title track and almost couldn’t believe the serendipity.
On the return flight from London to MCO there were more than sixty high school cheerleaders — from multiple schools across the UK — en route to a big cheer competition at Disney and all of them spent the entire time discussing TTPD tracks and how they’d universally stayed up late to download it at midnight, etc.
I believe Taylor Swift belongs on the Mt. Rushmore of lyricists, along with Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, and Bob Dylan.
