I just heard Stuart Scott on Sportscenter talking about Barry Bonds‘ season this year. He said something that just blows me away. I hadn’t — until now — really appreciated Bonds’ home run extravaganza. The 73 (SEVENTY-THREE!!!) home runs in a season is amazing, obviously. But Scott just said that Bonds hit a home run every twelve swings. Not “at-bats”. Swings. A home run every twelfth time he swung the bat. That is just incredible. I cannot believe that.

NFL players have unusually small hat sizes.
In other NFL news, NBC has announced that during halftime of the Super Bowl, it will air a 20-minute special of the drek “reality” show Fear Factor — reality shows” being the least real things on television — in which the contestants are six former Playboy Playmates of the Year. Swimsuits will surely be required for the so-far-undisclosed event. Maybe it will be a tanning-oil rubbing competition! The segment will start the moment the Super Bowl second quarter concludes, to lure viewers from Fox during the halftime festivities.

A Gator QB cuts a Christmas album
Wow! I’m sitting here in LA with ESPN‘s Best of Sportscenter on the TV and I just saw Steve Spurrier wish all the armed forces a Merry Christmas. That was cool.
I absolutely adore that they call the show “Monday Night Football” even when it’s airing on a Saturday night.

UT
Even if they beat Florida, you still can’t spell ‘citrus’ without UT. Q. – What does UT football have in common with marijuana? A. – They both get smoked in a bowl. Q. – Why is the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and the State Prison in Nashville? A. – Nashville had first choice. Q.
BCS Shambles
This is the central reason people loathe the BCS. Because it doesn’t account for the human spirit. Because it doesn’t let players decide things on the field with guts and nerve and timing. Because it doesn’t allow a 22-year-old failed baseball player to enter a game and turn the football world on its head.
Still Hurts
“It hurts,” UF coach Steve Spurrier said. “We didn’t win anything this year. We had a good record, had a lot of good games, but we didn’t win anything.”
